green screen understanding

Green screening removes specific sets of colors from footage to make the area transparent for other footage or still backgrounds.
the reason green is used for the green screening is because its a rare color that is not in a lot of areas and also a lot of people do not wear that kind of bright green so that is why green is used in green screens and not blue or red.

green screening can be useful for when wanting to input a different background to a scene an example would be to if it was office scene that was in a new York skyscraper however it wasn't in new York or in a skyscraper they could apply some green screen to the windows then add a view of new York later on due to the removing of the old view.

also green screening is heavily used in weather forecast and when i say heavily used i mean in all professional weather forecasting channels use green screen to display the map of the county/area where the weather is changing.
so with green screen it can behind the presenter and be changing between slides to show developing changes of weather.

an example of green screen being used with in film is The Avengers,
Green screen is heavily used within the Avengers because it is a action film with destroyed buildings, blown up cars, bullet holes and all round carnage so the look and effect of this could not be done in the streets of new york so the actors had to be in a studio with platforms and props all round with a green coating and all the walls were green too so new york was build around them as they played out the scene.

i found that it was a fantastic result if i didn't research up for the green screen process on the Avengers film i would believe it was film on the streets of new York with minimal green screen, so with the challenges it faced it was a convincing piece of work.

good and bad photos for animatic

Bad images
this image has way to much in terms of posters on the side and could of easily be dealt with by just removing them

this image has loads of reflecting glare and there is loads of unneeded background.

this image could be easily cropped to remove all the junk to the side

this image has too much foreground that's unneeded in the shot and loads of extra stuff like signs and tables and also it's focused in the middle too much.

this images background has way to much going on it like the trees and bushes to the left also the ground could be easily cropped out and doesn't need to be there,

this image is good in the angle and shot length but it's too central and there are unneeded chairs in the back ground so either it could of done with removing the chairs or blurring the back ground.

good images
this image is good in terms of rules of thirds and also diagonals of the table.

the background of this image is good because it has a slide blur to it also it's use of foreground and background.

the low angle here works well also the space to move is nicely done.

this image is nice in its glare and also the near to symmetrical look however not just so it's breaking the rules.

this image has a good use of sticking to the point and nicely focus' on the badge and blurred background

this image has a nice use of symmetry and a over the shoulder shot with complimentary foreground use

photo shop images to show end plans.

having the character split into multiple characters in the image as a duplicating power is shown here.

here we have a girl using "mind control" in a still image with a of a book being cropped into the frame with an aura around it as a magical effect.

photo animatic

during this photo animatic there loads of issues i wish overcome, like the sound in terms of music, dialogue and sound design, so far there is no sound design in the production and the effect of this is very off putting and unnatural to watch, also some dialogue is missing or wrong script is used or will not be used in the future, also the music is way to intense and epic for this short exposition.

another issue is the actors used in the photos are completely off every single one is not same as the end product or what the end product will be. including the costumes here.

Point break sequence

How to export the sequence:

1

Firstly i started by rendering my sequence to get it looking refined and well conjoined, i rendered it via hitting the space bar and it rendered the clip to fit together.
2
after it had rendered i clicked file then i clicked export then i clicked media to get it exported in the right format.
3
after this in the export window i changed the Format to H.264 and made adjustments to have the Preset to Youtube HD 1080p .
4
then i clicked on the output to save it in my files and rename it something suitable like point break sequence.
5
then i finally pressed save and export.

Animatic Review

Shot length

our shot lengths are well fitted being mostly only 1.5 seconds long each and longer for important shots like visual effects e.g floating books and cloning.
We had loads of shots so we could have them really short which was fine due to having so many to make the clip.

camera movement

we have the animatic shots are moving for when its zooming to reveal more in the room or people and other movements would be when the characters would be moving along the camera would follow them so the shot moves in the direction of there movement.

Sound levels

the sound levels in the clip are quiet for the soundtrack however much louder when it comes to dialogue so people understand the text spoken and make it more engaging.
The levels of the background music is silent to begin with the eventually turning up louder however remaining quieter then the dialogue, then it dies back down at the end.

Voice acting

the voice acting was preformed in a sound proof room and rehearsed well before recording to get the best possible results in terms of clean audio,
we had 3 sets of characters speaking in the clip so we had two teenage voices which were easily preformed due the others in my group speaking in there normal voices whilst recording, however i had to voice act the headteacher which took multiple recordings and retakes due to keeping the same and sounding right.

VFX

the visual effects in the clip were clearly shown in there presence and what they do however we could of added more to them to show what the look what be more like e.g adding lights and color to the glowing book and steam in the punched wall.

Peer feedback

in our feedback we were praised for are number of shots and the length of each shot and also the story was easy to follow however it was said that the dialogue was limited and need more of it to grab the audience but with that in mind everything else was good and praised by our peers.

matte painting research

Definition of Matte Painting

According to wikipedia 'Matte Painting is a painted representation of a landscape, set or distant location of an environment that is none exist in real life or would otherwise be too expensive or impossible to build or visit' this is the definition of a matte painting.

Matte Painting history

Matte painting used to be made by paints or pastels on glass sheets at the time of the live-action footage, in the 1980's new technology came around to change the matte painting game, enabling matte painters to enter to the digital realm. and with these technology's graphics were improved allowing the creation of landscapes to made easily with a lot less hassle and also having the new advantages of editing the pieces so with all this the work became a lot more better.

even though these new technology's were around, classic style painting were still being produced throughout the 90's with films like die hard 2 using the traditional style,
however this came to a close in eventually by the end of the decade.

now with the paint and pastels gone artists use a range of resources to create the images like 3-D models, photo references and drawing tablets as big assets.

Use of Matte Painting in HellBoy

with in the film Hell Boy there are various scenes that use matte painting however i found one scene extraordinary, there is a scene were someone is crossing a great range of snow blizzard mountains which looks incredible however the actual orginal footage of the man is really close up compared to the finished piece, the raw footage consisted of a man in the costume literally just walking up a white plank within a normal room then the clip was crop to have the man appropriately edited to size then the matte painting came in too feature the mountains in the background and the snowy wasteland in the foreground.

I think the use matte painting here is very well done and looks amazing especially considering the original footage, so im heavily impressed by this matte painting.

character's costume

Quentin's costume

Mindy's costume

Milo's costume

Xavier's costume

Xavier is a shy, yet powerful 15 year-old boy, with the power of fire control. He can create fireballs in the palm of his hand, and he can control flames to do whatever he pleases. He is a very passive person, but with high morals and is willing to do whatever he can to make things right.

He usually walks around in very casual clothing (jeans, flannel shirt and patterned woollen jumper), and wears a brown messenger bag. He always walks around with over-ear headphones in too.

Headmaster's costume
The headmaster, also known as Cairo, is an small elderly man, in his late 70's. He is from London, and speaks with a very wise, soft voice. He usually goes around in a suit, and wears black leather shoes. He is single, but close with all the tutors and lecturers at the school. He used to come to the school, as this is where he evolved his power of telepathy, where he can read people's minds.

character bio; Adam

college story draft 2

visual effects research

visual effects

In the sequence we will need to apply clones in a scene for multiple people in one shot
the visual effect will helpful make it seem like there are multiple sets of the person in one from as a power.

another visual effect we will be using is the effect of objects floating in the air because a character has mind control in the story so she lifts a book into the air.

we also are going to have glow emitting from objects and people to show active powers e.g skin, eyes and objects like books.
